What Andy Stanley learned after 40 years of leading.

Hi Reader,

What if the very thing that makes you a successful leader is the very thing that could take you down?

Andy Stanley thinks leadership is inherently dangerous, and today explains why. I sit down for a candid, end-of-an-era interview with Andy.

I've watched far too many gifted leaders build incredible organizations, only to lose everything because of decisions they never imagined they'd make.... and if I'm being candid, it's something I think about in my own leadership.

I sat down with Andy Stanley to talk about what he's learned over 40 years of leading, and we went somewhere I think every leader needs to go.

Andy explained how success can slowly surround you with people who affirm your decisions, protect you from criticism, and make you feel more important than you actually are. Recognize the pattern? I do.

Andy calls it the evolution of a court. And it can happen whether you lead 400 people or 40,000.

We also talked about why leaders become addicted to feeling special, how to create a culture where people can challenge you, and what it takes to finish well.

With Andy recently announcing he's stepping back as lead pastor of North Point, this conversation feels especially meaningful. We filmed it before the announcement was made, but you'll still get a fantastic collection of decades of wisdom in an hour.

If you want to lead well for the long haul, I hope you'll listen.
