A better alternative than rage and apathy

Hi Reader,

I get it. This is a confusing time to live, not to mention a confusing time to lead.

There are at least three reactions you can have to the craziness around us.

1. Jump into the fray and start arguing.

Unfortunately, Christians have been sucked into the nastiness, division and partisanship along with everyone else. Often, Christians aren’t providing an alternative to the anger and outrage online; they’re fuelling it.

But here's the truth: you won’t be better for it.

Have you ever won an argument on the internet? Exactly. And it all lives rent-free in your head.

It gets worse, though, because when Christians lose their minds, people lose their faith.

2. Put your head in the sand and ignore it.

I admit, this is so tempting. For my own mental health, sometimes I do this. But in the end, apathy doesn’t really help either. The world burns. You and I fiddle.

3. Do some good.

No, you and I are probably not going to broker world peace. But you can be kind to the person who cut you off in the supermarket line. You can pick up a piece of litter that a thousand people have walked past and ignored. You can surprise your spouse with a latte they weren’t expecting. You can lean a little harder into your sermon this week and shine the spotlight on grace, truth, and Jesus.

Often, Christians aren’t providing an alternative to the anger and outrage; they’re fuelling it.

So this week, which will you choose?

I’m going to try to do some good. There are 100K+ people who get this email. Good compounds just like evil does, so let’s do some good this week.
