AI answers instantly. God sometimes doesn’t.

Hi Reader,

You’ve probably told your congregation a hundred times that patience is a virtue. Learning to wait on God is part of the Christian life.

But how do you disciple someone into patience when they’re used to getting an answer in half a second?

Because that’s the world every person in your church lives in now. AI answers instantly... every time, on every topic, with total confidence (even when it’s wrong).

God, as you know, sometimes doesn’t answer at all.

Scripture treats that silence as normal, even formative:

  • The dark night of the soul.
  • The persistent widow banging on the door of heaven.
  • Jesus telling his followers to keep knocking when no one answers.

For two thousand years, waiting has been part of how faith gets formed.

But what happens to patience, faithfulness, and endurance when someone leaves your Sunday sermon on waiting well, gets in the car, and has an instant, comprehensive conversation about God with an app before they hit the first red light?

I don’t think the discipleship crisis will look like people rejecting God. It’s probably going to look like something subtler, and honestly, more dangerous. Because most pastors won’t see it happening in their own church until it’s well underway.

AI is always available. God is always present. Those aren’t nearly the same thing, and your people need help telling the difference.

The NEW AI Discipleship Crisis

In this video I unpack the new discipleship crisis, along with the one sentence I’d add to your next sermon on prayer, and a real reason for hope underneath all of it (it has everything to do with why Gen Z is suddenly open to Christianity again).

Technology Changes. Your Mission Doesn't.

Discipleship has always been personal. Keeping it that way is at the heart of StudioC. They help churches know where people are, communicate in ways that connect, and guide meaningful next steps, using technology to make ministry more personal at scale.

See how intentional your church’s engagement strategy is and find resources to help you make ministry more personal at studioc.org/carey.

Again, don't miss this part: AI is always available. God is always present. Those aren’t nearly the same thing, and your people need help telling the difference.

Cheering for you,

P.S. The same technology creating the problem is producing something no church growth strategy ever could: people hungry for what’s real. That part of the video might be my favorite.
