Hi Reader,
I recently visited the Little White House in Key West, Florida, the vacation house from which Harry Truman frequently ran the country between 1946 and 1952.
On the Presidential desk was his famous "The Buck Stops Here" sign, which he had made to remind himself and everyone else that if you're the President of the United States, you can't pass the buck.
What I didn't know was what he had on the back of the sign.
It simply says, "I'm from Missouri."
That was a sobering reminder to the man who had the power to deploy nuclear bombs and who was the most powerful man in the world, that he was just a person from Missouri.
Power can go to your head so quickly, whether you lead the free world, are crushing it on YouTube, lead a mega church, or lead a church of 50 people.
“
Humble leaders keep their notebooks open because they believe they can learn something from everyone.

One of the things I love most about my crazy journey of the last three decades is that I live five minutes from the three churches I started at as a seminary student in 1995.
And the best part is, most people who go to our church and live in our neighborhood these days have no idea what I do (even when I explain it), and when they hear about it, don't seem to care much.
I'm just a guy they go to church with and live near. And that's wonderfully refreshing.
I'm from Missouri.
How about you?

Cheering for you,
P.S. The other thing that was so winsome about the Little White House was how simply it was furnished. It seems like the kind of place my grandparents might have visited. Humility is not overrated.
