On the Rise: 18 Questions you should be asking + Regrets and travel tips
Published 15 days ago • 4 min read
Welcome to the On The Rise newsletter, where I feature fascinating, helpful, and sometimes curious content that caught my attention this week.
Today, Morgan Housel lists a dozen and a half questions that are worth your time, 50 years of travel tips with Kevin Kelly, the power of regret, and a cool site you should try before you visit a new city.
Questions You Should Be Asking
Morgan Housel asks some GREAT questions.
The older I get, the more I realize that the questions you ask are almost more powerful than the answers you get. Similarly, the questions you ask determine the answers you live by.
To that end, Morgan Housel asks a dozen and a half questions that are worth saving for the next time you sit down to ponder your life and where it’s going.
Here’s a sample of five of his questions:
Who do I look up to that is secretly miserable?
What is a problem that I think only applies to other countries/industries/careers that will eventually hit me?
What do I think is true but is actually just good marketing?
What looks unsustainable but is actually a new trend we haven’t accepted yet?
What are we ignoring today that will seem shockingly obvious in a year?

Podcast alumnus (episode 590) Kevin Kelly has travelled the world for 50 years and offers some immensely practical, offbeat, and tremendously helpful tips on travel. Whether you’re on a super tight budget or are living it up, his tips are quite useful.
I love this tip: “Your enjoyment of a trip will be inversely related to the weight of your luggage. Counterintuitively, the longer your trip, the less stuff you should haul. Travelers still happy on a 6-week trip will only have carry-on luggage.”
I’ve done four weeks on the road with a carry-on (not quite six), and yes, it works.
You can watch it in theaters or stream it at home.
The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.
Shot in a beautiful cinematic format, The Chosen: Last Supper brings the most pivotal week in history to audiences in this special three-part theatrical release.
So you’re heading to a new city; how do you scope it out before you get there?
Google search is a shadow of what it used to be, filled with paid searches and AI summaries. And a lot of the sites it recommends are from companies that get paid to feature the hotels and activities they rank. And yes, AI is a decent trip planner, but you need to figure out prompts and links.
Enter things.in. It’s an independent app where you enter the city name and voila, top attractions, restaurants and accommodations pop-up. It’s free.
I tried some cities I’m familiar with, and it didn’t get the accommodation and food quite right in my view, but it did offer up cool things I didn’t realize were there.
Not going anywhere? Search your city, and you’ll probably find some things you didn’t know existed that are worth exploring. Enjoy!
Cheering for you,
