Published 6 days ago • 3 min read
Welcome to the On The Rise newsletter, where I feature fascinating, helpful, and sometimes curious content that caught my attention this week.
Today, everything you wanted to know about New Year’s resolutions (even if you’re a cynic), Warren Buffett’s wisdom, Craig Groeschel’s take on habits, and the 100 best comedies of all time to make 2026 a year where you laugh again.
The Top 120 New Year’s Resolutions Are…
Plus, the biggest reason people change.
So it’s a BRAND NEW YEAR, but guess what? I dragged my same self into it. How about you?
The truth is, I’ve changed a lot over the years, hopefully for the better.
The biggest reason I’ve changed is that I shifted my motivation from extrinsic (I should) to intrinsic and identity-based (this is who I am).
If you're still thinking about what you want to change in 2026, this article has everything you need for resolutions, including a list of the top 120 resolutions people make. Even if you roll your eyes at New Year’s resolutions, this will help you see what most of the people you serve are getting after this year.
And yes, it’s a 2025 article, but hey, human nature really doesn’t change that much in 12 months…

Folksy wisdom from the 95-year-old, now former CEO.
I drove by Warren Buffett’s house a few years ago while in Omaha and was amazed by how ordinary it was. Sure, it was nice, but he could own a palace. He’s one of the world’s wealthiest men, worth 11.5 billion.
His last newsletter is worth reading. Folksy, kind, self-deprecating, and surprisingly humble, it’s the opposite of corporate-speak.
He’s also got some great insights. Grab a warm drink, pull a chair up by the fire, and enjoy.

I recently recommended James Clear’s Atomic Habits in this space, which is a fantastic book. I also appreciate Craig Groeschel’s foray into the habit space. Craig is one of the most disciplined humans and leaders I know, and his framing of habits in the context of faith is fantastic.
I use his “I’m training, not trying” mantra all the time when I’m mastering something new.
The world is chaotic, and more and more, my wife and I try to find something that makes us laugh. (I also love studying comedians. Their gifting blows me away.)
They don’t make comedies like they used to, but this list of the top 100 comedies of all time will give you a few enjoyable nights this year.
Cheering for you,
Weekend Watching
David Ashcraft
Former LCBC Senior Pastor David Ashcraft talks about the small church dysfunction he encountered when he arrived at LCBC when it was just a small church. He discusses how it scaled into a mega-church of 22,000, succession, and how he repositioned the Global Leadership Summit for the future.
