On The Rise: 6 Selfish Reasons to Have Kids, How to Find Your Dream Job, and What AI Will Do to Jobs

Welcome to the On The Rise newsletter, where I feature fascinating, helpful, and sometimes curious content that caught my attention this week.

Today, more on the disruptive impact of AI on jobs, and, conversely, how to find your dream job (best book about finding fulfilling work I’ve read), why you don’t need to put Sriracha in the fridge, and six selfish reasons to have kids (or more kids).

America Isn’t Ready for What AI Will Do to Jobs

It’s time to start thinking through a very different future.

If you’re a regular reader, you might know I’ve been studying the impact of AI on society, the church and ministry for almost two years now (my new book, AI and the Future Church releases in September).

Probably the most disruptive thing to happen in the next few years is the possible, probable massive job loss among white-collar workers (think about what that might do to the giving at your church 🫣 ).

This article is not only extremely well written (writers….), but it’s a balanced account of what may or may not happen.

Either way, things are about to change fast this year with AI.

Want Your Sermons to Stick Longer Than Sunday?

Transform your preaching starting this week.

Most pastors don’t struggle because they lack passion or calling.

The real challenge?

Prepping for Sunday morning becomes a weekly grind… and your congregation can hear (and feel) it on Sunday morning.

The Art of Preaching gives you clear, practical guidance to change that. In the course, Mark Clark and I share proven skills and insights to truly transform your preaching.

From crafting opening lines that grab attention from the first sentence, to organizing your main points so every idea lands clearly, to weaving stories and illustrations that make your message stick—it’s all there, planned for you one step at a time.

You'll also hear from top preachers like Megan Fate Marshman, Noah Herrin, Adam Mesa, and Faith Eury Cho to challenge, inspire, and sharpen your approach, giving you a fresh vision for how God can use your unique voice.

With your All-Access membership, you already have access to the entire course—dive into it here. It takes just 10 minutes to get started.

Six Selfish Reasons to Have Kids

Kevin Kelly on why kids are good for you.

There’s a real debate among many (not so much in the church, but among many others) about whether to have kids. And birth rates in the West and even in Asia are at all-time lows.

Why have kids? Kevin Kelly gives you six selfish reasons.

P.S. Don’t forward this article to your adult kids who haven’t had kids yet. Deal?

Remember Those in Prison With God’s Word

Put a Bible in the hands of someone behind bars.

“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”

—Hebrews 13:3

God’s Word instructs us as believers to remember those in prison as if we were behind bars, sitting right next to them. But how can we do this?

Thanks to Prison Fellowship, living out this verse is simple and life-changing for us and for our incarcerated brothers and sisters.

The answer? Bibles.

Your gift today will help put Bibles and Christian content into the hands of waiting prisoners. Give now to reach men and women with what they need most: God’s Word! Thank you for remembering those in prison.

Running Down a Dream by Bill Gurley

Speaking of jobs and what’s left, this is the best career book on finding the ideal career I’ve read. Bill Gurley, the legendary Silicon Valley venture capitalist, has met so many people, chronicles stories of people who have found their dream job, and tells you what to do and what not to do. It’s fascinating and resonates deeply. Also, Bill will be on my podcast this spring to talk about this and more.

7 Condiments You Don’t Need to Keep in the Fridge

Let this spark some fights at home.

Who knew you didn’t have to keep Sriracha or Worcestershire sauce in the fridge? Also, I once had an English woman tell me my pronunciation of “Worcestershire” was spot on (it’s wuh-stuh-shu).

If you’re fighting for fridge space, this could help.

And now, let the arguments between spouses commence on both pronunciation and where to store things.

Cheering for you,
