The bar is so low (here's how to surpass it)
Published 10 days ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
If you need some good news today, here it is.
The bar in customer service is so low, it's easy to exceed it.
How? Just care.
I've recently returned from 9 days on the road, where I had incredible customer service and some truly abysmal customer experiences.
The standard at too many places?
Grunting (rather than speaking).
Avoiding eye contact.
Telling a customer why something is bad rather than listening to the problem.
Explaining why nothing can be done as a mask for not caring.
You know how to beat that? Easy.
Just care.
The Church—and your church—can be the best in the world at this. No one should be able to out-relationship the local church.

No one should be able to out-relationship the local church.
The good news is that you can select this when recruiting staff and volunteers for your ministry—people who look others in the eye, smile, and intelligently respond to what they're saying.
This matters across the board, but it's especially critical for people on the front line (greeters, parking lot attendants, and kids check-in teams).
Things go wrong every day... but in a world filled with, "Your call is important to us... press 2 for 20 more minutes of hold time," cut-rate customer service, having an actual human who can listen, empathize (and make it right if possible) is a superpower.
So you want a quick win this week?
Care (and encourage your team to do the same). Do that, and you're ahead of almost everyone out there.
