The number your church probably isn't tracking

Hi Reader,

Here's a question worth sitting with: do you know how many people walked through your doors last Easter?

Most pastors do...

Now here's the harder question: Of everyone who showed up at Easter, how many are still there?

Most pastors don't know that one. Not because they don't care, but because nobody knows how many people are still there.

Your instincts about your people are probably right... you already know who's drifting. You can feel when someone's quietly pulling back. That's not something you learned in seminary, it simply came from years of hallway conversations, altar calls, and coffee after church.

Your instinct only reaches the people you personally happen to see.

The moment a church grows past what one person can hold in their head, what happens? Most pastors don't have a good answer for it. Besides, even if you can 'track' who's coming and going, what's the follow up on that data really like? Good intentions to do something don't translate into excellent systems.

Our friends at Subsplash wrote something worth reading on this.

It's about the gap between the data church leaders have and the people that data actually represents (and what it looks like to close that gap without losing the pastoral heart behind it).

Cheering for you,

P.S. Subsplash recently launched Trends AI, which pulls your people's attendance, giving, and engagement into one place so you can ask plain-language questions about your congregation and get real answers. Check it out.
